It snows every year in Tennessee, why would you have to fly to Idaho? A bogus "fact"?

When I was growing up our neighbors built a dance floor in their backyard, I was only 8 years old at the time. We loved him and his music, my neighbor has every 45 and album he ever had. I remember the day my neighbor called to say Elvis had died, my neighbor was a grown man at the time and to hear him cry was a very sad time. I especially loved when he was sitting on the stage in his black leather jacket and just singing to the audience, I still get chills when I watch it. He is in a happy place now and is very much missed by all of us.

What do you mean by affraid? He did not even care for the Beattles at first, they insisted on meeting him, which they were awestruck.

I remember the day Elvis died. The television screen went black and a message went across it. People were in shock in my house for days. The king was gone. My Mom is the biggest Elvis fan there is. She had her room plastered with Elvis posters when she was a kid. I had a chance to see him in concert and I didn't want to go. I now wish that my Mom would have made me go. I regret that to this day. Elvis will always be the king of rock and roll!

I was 10 when Elvis died. My parents and I had just moved to Florida and we were in the car headed to get something to eat when the announcement came over the radio that Elvis had died. I remember my mom saying that it was almost the same as when Buddy Holly died. I love the King and his music. I too wish I had gone to see him in 1972 instead of being more interested in a little league game.

Elvis may have been the "King" of something but it wasn't rock and roll. He was a great at ballads. I met him once but even at 12 I was more fascinated by the reactions to him than I was by him. I think people loved him so because of the way he treated people and because he seemed to make fun of himself in many performances. He was basically a decent guy who treated other people well. I'm surprised the quiz didn't mention how he idolized Roy Orbison.
I was raised in Tn and big snows only occasionally happen anywhere but in the eastern mountains. In Knoxville it snows every year but
seldom qualifies as a big snow. Idaho is an astoundingly beautiful state and I think it is highly believable that someone would want someone to see the snow there.

You have got to be kidding!!!! Elvis is NOT the king of rock and roll and there are to many other artists out there that have influenced rock and roll....he was nothing but a greaser!!!

Kaaaathy - I couldn't agree with you more. I did see Elvis once in Las Vegas. He had absolutely no stage presence or personality and I understand he led quite a debauched life when traveling.

I was a big fan when I was younger, now my son is just as big of a fan as I was. He has quite the collection.

Notice the diversity of the sources of these opinions of Elvis:
Bob Dylan:
When I first heard Elvis' voice I just knew that I wasn't going to work for anybody; and nobody was going to be my boss. Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail.

Leonard Bernstein:
Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century. He introduced the beat to everything, music, language, clothes, it's a whole new social revolution… the 60's comes from it.

Frank Sinatra:
There have been many accolades uttered about Elvis' talent and performances through the years, all of which I agree with wholeheartedly. I shall miss him dearly as a friend. He was a warm, considerate and generous man.

John Lennon:
Before Elvis, there was nothing.

AHHH.... I had the honor and priviledge to see Elvis twice, 1973 and 1974 and I will never forget it. 30 years since those shows and he still is the best concert and performer I ever saw and I have seen them all. When you left his show you could not he "wish he sung this etc etc". The first time I was in shock and disbelief just to be so close that I did not say a word. Second time just sat back and relaxed to try to catch whatever I may have missed the first time. Still have my ticket stubs and program, especially from the Lake Tahoe performance.

His talent is validated everyday by great performers today who idolized his music.

Growing up in Louisville, KY, Memphis was not very far away and news traveled fast between the two states and their radio stations when Elvis died. I was 9 at the time and was playing in my backyard on Aug 16 when my mother hollered at me in hysterics, "Get in the house! Elvis died!" Every year on Aug 16, I would call her and remind her of that day. I even made mention of it in her eulogy when she passed away in 2004. It was one of those childhood memories you don't forget!
