Elvis never made that statement. And to the person who said they can name 10 better performers, name them. In terms of sheer vocal ability and versatility, I think you would be hard pressed. Not many folks can/could sing gospel, rock and country and sound completely authentic in each genre. Say what you want about Elvis Presley, but he truly loved music and he loved to perform. He worked very hard at his craft (until the drugs set in, unfortunately). I think that, above all else, should be his legacy: that he loved what he did and worked hard for his fans.

Elvis is Rock and Roll. For all of you that think R&R started when the Beatles came out. Beatles had a short time in R & R. They are only half of what they use to be.

I went to seeElvis in concert at the Lubbock,Tx Coliseum. We couldn"t hear him sing for everybody yelling, but I will Always remember "Ring of Fire" it was awesome, the girls all throwing personal items of clothing on stage> Elvis had white silk scarves around his neck and he woul dwipe off his face with them and throw out in the audience and everyone would break their necks trying to get them, will never forget it and yes,I, for one cried when he died. He was a legend that I grew up with, thanks for the memories, susan paiz,Texas

You have got to be kidding!!!! Elvis is NOT the king of rock and roll and there are to many other artists out there that have influenced rock and roll....he was nothing but a greaser!

Elvis didn't just influence Rock and Roll, he gave birth to it! Do everyone a favor and get educated on the subject before you go shooting your mouth off okay!?

I had the pleasure of acting Elvis(the Pharoh) in the first amateur version of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Here in Newcastle County Down, Northern Ireland in January 1974.
My favourite Elvis songs are ones most people wouln't know eg. Wild in the Country,Tomorrow is a long Time, and That's Someone You Never Forget.

When I was growing up our neighbors built a dance floor in their backyard, I was only 8 years old at the time. We loved him and his music, my neighbor has every 45 and album he ever had. I remember the day my neighbor called to say Elvis had died, my neighbor was a grown man at the time and to hear him cry was a very sad time. I especially loved when he was sitting on the stage in his black leather jacket and just singing to the audience, I still get chills when I watch it. He is in a happy place now and is very much missed by all of us.

I remember the day Elvis died. The television screen went black and a message went across it. People were in shock in my house for days. The king was gone. My Mom is the biggest Elvis fan there is. She had her room plastered with Elvis posters when she was a kid. I had a chance to see him in concert and I didn't want to go. I now wish that my Mom would have made me go. I regret that to this day. Elvis will always be the king of rock and roll!
