I agree. Without Elvis the Beatles but not have become what they became. Elvis had a dynamic effect on so many things, it is a mindblower if you think about it. I know it's a stretch but JFK might not have been shot if Elvis had never come along, he just had an effect on so many things. The writer William F. Buckley once wrote that Elvis Presley was the greatest cultural impact on the twentieth century.

Elvis is the first person I can think that only needed one name. Bonos quote says it best. The big bang of rock 'n roll.

It's going to be awefully tough to get an opinion from Frank Sinatra (as the link says: From Bono and Frank Sinatra)

Elvis will always be the king of rock and roll. Elvis said when fans called him the king he would correct them that Jesus is the one and only King.... May he be in heaven singing for the LORD.

Joe, I too, am a Beatles fan and I wouldn't go so far as to say that without Elvis there would be no Beatles. The Beatles had several influences. Elvis was only one and with or without him, the dynamic duo of John and Paul would have left their mark in rock and roll history.

I grew up in the "Elvis era". Words cannot describe the effect he had on people. You had to be there to appreciate the out pouring of emotian from his fans and critics alike. Elvis truly polarized the country. I was lucky enough to attend his last public apperance in Indianapolis In. That memory will forever be with me.

ELVIS WAS TRULY AN AMERICAN ORIGINAL, BEATLES BEING FROM ENGLAND CAN`T BE EMBRACED IN THE SAME WAY.ELVIS PRESLEY`S REIN HAS LASTED FOR GENERATION`S AND STILL ALL THESE YEARS AFTER HIS PASSING IS, TALKED ABOUT AND SELLING LIKE NO OTHER ARTIST WHO IS NO LONGER WITH US. THE BEATLES WINDOW WAS TRULY VERY SHORT FROM THE TIME THEY HIT THE US 1964-69,AS INDIVIDUAL`S THEY WENT ON TO DO MANY FINE THING`S BUT AS THE BEATLES, IT REALLY WAS SHORT LIVED.

Elvis was the greatest of the great. Too bad he did'nt have enough sense to listen to his fans and not his so called doctor. He might still be around today. I still miss him, thanks for the records, tapes and CD's I can still listen to him, and I do.
