Brooklyn's own Queen of Soul Sharon Jones -- best known for fronting the classic funk outfit the Dap-Kings -- is adding a hefty item to her resume: actress. Jones will make her film debut as a Juke Joint singer named 'Lila' in the forthcoming Denzel Washington-directed film, 'The Great Debaters.' Washington handpicked the soulstress after seeing a live DVD performance of hers. "Working with Denzel was really amazing for me," Jones tells Spinner. "I felt like I was dreaming. I'm a big fan."
"I think it's a great story and I can't wait to watch it all," Jones, who landed both a speaking part and and sings Lucille Bogan's 'That's What My Baby Likes' in the film, continues. "I hope I can work with him again!"
The singer will also record a few tracks for the soundtrack, while the film is scheduled hit theaters on Christmas Day.
