Ben Lee Goes Punk, Again(st Me!)
- Posted on Aug 21st 2007 1:30PM by Mike Spinella
Veteran folk-pop singer-songwriter Ben Lee is no stranger to punk. The Aussie rocker fronted fuzz-punks Noise Addict at age the age fifteen before his musical evolution, but twelve years and six albums later, Lee's returning to his roots by covering Against Me!'s latest album, 'New Wave,' in its entirety on his MySpace."I downloaded the album after everyone I knew was telling me it ruled," Lee told Spinner, "and then [I] understood what the hype was about. I loved the songwriting from a classic perspective of craft. It is quite masterful."
The covers project isn't atypical of Lee, however. The Aussie rocker has previously offered up his own interpretations of everything from Modest Mouse's 'Float On' and Weezer's 'Butterfly,' to the Beatles' 'This Bird Has Flown,' among many others.
Download Lee's acoustic take on 'New Wave,' and read his current Top Five musical picks as told to Spinner. Lee's new album, 'Ripe,' hits shelves on Sept. 18.
