rocketdream34 i looked it up on wikipedia...and im not saying its a 100% sure thing but it said: The song is generally understood to be an allegory about hedonism and self-destruction in the Southern California music industry of the late 1970s; Don Henley called it "our interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles"[2] and later reiterated "[i]t's basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about."[3] it then says that the band has denied all accounts of it being about a satanic church
This song is THE quintessential Eagles song of the 70's, along with In The City, well this is strictly MY opinion anyway and YES, the Eagles were one of the great bands of the 70's, along with Styx, ELP, ELO (even though I think they were a lip synch band in concert), Elton John. I could go on and on.
i heard, not joking at all, that this song was written about the satanist church in california.
because, according to myth, there's a satanist church in california called Hotel California...someone look it up, i'd like to be proved wrong

the picture on the album cover of the hotel is actually the Hard rock cafe in Orlando Florida. and the Song is about A hotel that used to be around back in the day on A route that I can't recall.. the Hotel has sense burnt down, Oh and the Flower they sing about (one smell of colitus).during the writing of the song “Hotel California,” by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, the word “colitas” was translated for them by their Mexican-American road manager as “little buds.” Colitas is little tails, but here the author is referring to “colas,” the tip of a marijuana branch, where it is more potent and with more sap — said to be the best part of the leaves.

Good opening line. It reminds us Boomers that once upon a time, we used to have hair.
