I think there are three versions of this song.
The Smiths (Original)
Love Spit Love ("the Craft"/"Charmed")
TATU ("300km In The Wrong Lane")

Don't forget the one by Snake River Conspiracy from their album Sonic Jihad. There are others, too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Soon_Is_Now%3F#Cover_versions

I believe the group is love spit love - they did the same song for the movie "The Craft and spin off of the movie -T.V. show Charmed where the opening song was How soon is now. Either way the song rocks....my daughter and I love it.

The Smith's did it first.... always remember that!! IT's more important then you could imagine!

The Smiths recorded this song in 1985. Love Spit Love did a cover of it for the soundtrack of The Craft. Also Charmed is in no way affiliated with The Craft.Anyway, This is a great opening line.

No, the Love Spit Love version was a cover. The Smiths did it originally back in the 80's.

I just hung up my Smiths poster on my wall this morning. Just goes to show that a band can still be amazing after all these years.

I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does!

I first heard this song 23 years ago and went right out to buy "Meat is Murder" which remains one of my favorite albums of all time. Johnny Marr's reverb and tremelo-havy opening guitar riff and Stephen Patrick Morrissey's lyrics make this song among the most unique songs ever recorded.

Who the F*ck are the Smiths!?!

"who the f-ck are the Smiths" ?
My friend, that is a question one should never have to ask. Do yourself a favor and go pick up the Smiths "The Queen is Dead"....and discover music.

Clearly Stacy and Adam are not "children of the 80's." Those were the days.....

I was wondering if this would make the original list, glad to see that it at least made the Readers Best list. Great opening line, great song, great band, great lyricist...Morrissey.

In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
