The Great and HIGHLY underrated and underappriciated Hoyt Axton, also wrote , Never Been to Spain, Della and the Dealer, and agreat song released just before he died, Mountain Right. Also his Mother Mae Boren Axton wrote Heartbreak Hotel for Elvis Presley.
There was song years ago that I didn't like, didn't care for, hated, etc., etc., etc. One late afternoon after work, my buddy took me to one of the first all nude girlie bars in the Detroit suburbs for a right of passage. We walked in between songs, he lead us to a small oval stage surrounded by chairs, and this small little blonde stripped down to nothing and spent the entire song on her back, with her legs going in all directions as she continuously turned around the table all through that very slow sensuous song. To this day I remember her, that bar, and that song.
Billy Paul - "Me and Mrs.... Mrs. Jones... Mrs Jones... Mrs. Jones... Mrs. Jones... we got a thing goin' on."
Yeah, gothicprince74, Hoyt Axton! Also wrote The Pusher, most known version by Steppenwolf. And the "No,no song", done by Ringo. Etc. And others done by 3dog night. I loved those guys harmonies. Don't forget Hoyt's song, " Bony Fingers".
Oh yeah the song sung by none other that the VOICE Chuck Negron! He still tours today, has a best selling book, solo CD's. Check out his website www.negron.com! He is better than ever on stage!
My friend Hoyt Axton penned this opening line and the song "Joy to the World". It's a song well known as as Three Dog Night song But he was the song-writer. He loved that this song was so well known and popular and enjoyed that so many people had no idea that that the lyrics were his. The popularity of the opening line made him smile and he recieved little credit for his work.
I once heard Hoyt sing this song accompanying himself on the acoustic, and I gained a whole new appreciation for it. It was then I really grasped that Jerimiah was a real person which added a whole new dimension to the song's meaning.
i like most of the songs they did but my favorite goes like this...well i never been to spain.... i was almost born in oklahoma so when i sing along, instead of singing, i was born in oklahoma, i sing, i was "almost" born in oklahoma....and yes, i've been to arizona as an adult....and as they sing it, as far as i'm concerned, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter....just bring on the joy to the world. dad was in the army, mom was due to birth me, so he sent her to her dad's place in michigan while he set up post housing for her, him, my older brother, and little ole' me. i have pictures of me that were taken when mom finally got to oklahoma. i love that song and also always knew that the bullfrog was a human. that wasn't all that hard to figure out, was it? i guess so for some people. you had to know it wasn't a real bullfrog that lives in a swamp, didn't you? you're pulling our frog legs i bet..........
