Who wouldn't want to wake up next to Maggie Mae?

Rod Stewart was awesome, then all the sudden he's doing the "If ya think I'm sexy..." thing. What happened? This song and Mandolin Wind- two of the best pop songs of that era. Such a shame.

Saw Rod perform this one a few months ago... Great performance and energy still... the crowd went nuts when he sang the opening line.. all were on their feet singing every single word...

You also have to add two more: Every Picture tells a Story, and "Stay" from his Faces day with Ronnie Wood doing killer guitar work..."In the mornin', don't say you love me, cuz I'll only kick you out of the door"!

My granddaughter is named Magdalene Grace, and we call her Maggie. I started calling her Maggie May when she was first born - but everyone kept telling me that the song was not named Maggie May, just Maggie. Does anyone know the answer? Now I just call her Maggie Moose!

ROD....What happen to you? You went from rocking with the Faces to taking Geritol with Tony Bennett. Too Bad...pitty!

Corkync - the title of the song IS definitely "Maggie May", but Rod never refers to her that way in the lyrics of the song - he only calls her "Maggie". That's probably where the confusion stems from.

If 60-plus Stewart is still singing this song, how the hell old is Maggie May? I'll bet that morning sun shows a lot of age.

love him and all his songs!! saw him in concert a few years ago near washington d.c. and yes, the crowd went wild when he sang this song. my favorite of his is "reason to believe". it's a cry from a broken heart that's been lied to and they keep tring to find that reason to believe again. i didn't know him in his youth so he looks pretty normal to me as an old fart. keeps changing wives as he gets older, they just get younger each time too(eeks)and he's had oodles of kids by all these females. heard one of his son's is in trouble with the law in california, typical rich kid. rod's put out several perry como type albums...old fart songs. right for his age but i love him the way he was in his youth. correct, ole' maggie must be pushing 100 now and i bet her ancient looks would scare the pants right back on him. hah.

#9 - thank you for that info. Now I can sing that song to her and know for sure what the name is and why it just seemed right from the moment she was born to call her my "maggie may" - although maggie moose fits her now, as she is almost 2 and eats about as much as a moose does!!

Aw, I love Rod Stewart. My best friend's 7 year old sister is named Maggie, and she claims this as "her song."

OH Kathi how I do agree with you, saw him in concert and love every song he has ever sang, and I'm 73 years old, give me his rock n roll and his new oldie songs, just give me ROD

Man has to adapt -who else has lasted as long as Rod and can still sellout stadiums, sell CD's and sound great ?

It's a good song...but this line's not a particularly poinagnt opening line...I'm not sure it desrves a spot on the top ten...

Maggie Mae is an old Celtic folk song that many English/Scotch/Irish singers would sing as was or adapt to skiffle. This is just Rod's tribute to that song (or woman) but not an updated version.
