Damned Frontman Will Write for Rum

When we sit around -- as we often do -- compiling a list of artists who'd be most likely to get us to quaff from a cocktail topped with an umbrella...ella...ella, we seldom include pasty-skinned punk singers of, shall we say, a certain vintage. Apparently, the folks who manufacture Sailor Jerry rum disagree with our point of view, having tapped Dave Vanian -- frontman of first-wave pogo-inducers the Damned -- to pen a tune for their upcoming round of British ads.

Vanian, who hasn't issued new solo material in more than five years, will make the song available on the liquor-mongers' Web site as well as on the annual compilation album they'll issue towards the end of the year. We always thought something about their song 'Stretcher Case Baby' reminded us of Jimmy Buffett.
