2007 VMAs: Britney's Ill-Advised Comeback and Not a Whole Lot More

Usually, the MTV VMAs are good for some Monday morning discussion around the proverbial water cooler. This year, everything worth discussing was over in the first ten minutes.

Britney Spears' much-hyped "comeback" extravaganza turned out to be nothing more than a bewildered Spears, sporting blue contact lenses and a spangly black bikini, literally stumbling through a poorly lipsynched version of her new song, 'Gimme More.' The cameras caught 50 Cent and Diddy's confused expressions as they watched from the audience. Rihanna looked away. Even the Criss Angel "illusion" we'd heard so much about couldn't save the performance. In fact, the magic trick didn't happen at all. So much for those "rehearsals" the pair has been having until the wee hours.

And it was all downhill from there. Justin Timberlake gave MTV the best advice of the night: "Play more videos."

PopEater covers all of the painful ins-and-outs of the show in its VMA liveblog.

her performance may have been(or was)really really bad...however, if you look at those still photos of her...how can anyone say she didn't look good...especially after having 2 kids!!!

I think if you don't look like a model or have a SIX pack like half of you people saying she was fat, you seriously need to shut the fuck up, and probably hit the gym and a plastic surgin. Other then that I personnaly think her performance was terrible, for WHATEVER reason.

Okay, I understand that her outfit and over-sexed choreography may have been viewed as "over the top". On the other hand i think, it is wrong for so many sources to call her "fat", "to lay off the ding dongs?!, nice beer belly, and other insults having to do with her weight. After all, it is refreshing to have a woman with a healthy body weight, whom should not be deemed fat, to be confident in how they look. It is insulting as an average sized american woman to hear these insults about a woman that is a similar size to me. Although, i know i wouldnt dance around in an undies set...its still unfair to hit so below the belt. She should be proud to look like the way she does after a divorce, two kids, and parties.

I think all things considered she did fine. I don't understand why everyone is saying she is fat? She looks great! Yes, she has gained weight but she is older now and has just had 2 babies. She is a beatiful woman. People should not throw stones. Very few people could handle the pressure she is under from so many angles. She has been in the public eye since she was a little girl. Her every move documented and ridiculed by all. Show some compassion and show her some love and acceptance. I am truly disappointed at how people get so much joy out of pointing the finger at others.
