Kanye West Bans Himself From MTV

  • Posted on Sep 10th 2007 3:00PM by David Sprague

A goodly number of Kanye West's peers have managed to get themselves banned from the airwaves for acts ranging from excessive praise of recreational drugs to the sort of four-letter-word abuse usually associated with Elton John looking for a misplaced hairpiece. The preppily-dressed rapper, however, has never been able to get himself metaphorically escorted out of the hallowed halls of MTV -- a situation he's remedying by announcing his intent to ban himself from the network.

West threw his tantrum -- er, we mean "made his decision" -- after being confronted with the news that Britney Spears would be opening the VMAs, and, more significantly, that he wouldn't be. While we can't help but think the executives who made the choice that so offended Kanye are wishing they'd have seen things his way -- from where we sit, he'd probably even have looked a little better in that bikini thing than she did -- we're hoping they don't take the rapper's self-exclusion doctrine at face value. After all, if he were really, really angry, he'd have told the American public that "MTV doesn't care about people who wear sweater vests."

Why does Kanye Worst want to ban himslef? After the inappropiate actions disrutpting Taylor Swifts big moment he does'nt need to. As for P.Doody him and other rappers own MTV. Except for a few select acts it's permeated with a plethora of rap and hip hop on the Top Twenty countdown. The rest of the time it's mostly reruns of reality T.V. shows. I remember MTV starting in the early eighties, back then it was fun. These days it's now Empty TV.

Katrina wasn't racist.

However, the people affected were in the situation they were, because of social-economic status and most of these people were minorities. The people living in the "lowlands" of NO were the underprivledged...those who didn't have the education or the information to flee the storm.

The US's response was less than it could have been because of the disparity between the general, white public and those who were affected.

I'm white. I'm embarassed and, though not well-off, I've given money to help support the rebuilding of New Orleans. I can only hope that we, as a collective nation, can learn and grow from what happened when Katrina hit.

Let's see if I get Greenbone point, when I'm face with a racist situation, don't speak out about it because if I do I'm worst than the person that I accused of being a racist. What kind of reverse psycology bulls--- your pulling. If I see a bias situation, I'm gonna speak out about it, I don't care how you try to down play.

Yeah good call Regina. Racism is a natural human trait and every race is human. lol. If any minority doesn't want or like racism stop playing the victim or blaming anyone especially when those actions make you racist yourself. Kanye is a crybaby and a wanna be victim who tries to seek the lime light with his political comments, but just shows how he probably shouldn't have dropped out. He tries to copy Tupac by being political, but lacks intelligence or the ability to actually care about anyone but himself. What happened to the days that when someone was good and you knew it... they didn't have to say it, or make that who they were. Thats respect!!!

Regina - thanks for speaking up - and walking the walk.

I want YOU to host the awards next year.

Kanye is talented - no doubt.

Katrina was bad - no doubt.

...when something doesn't go our way - we gotta just move on, try again, change our pitch up, stay strong, don't throw tantrums or play race cards or blame the game.

Wow, everybody sounds a little insensitive. First of all Kanye is a cry baby, but I do like his music. Secondly, I went down south to help with rebuilding in New Orleans last summer and it was NOT a race issue. It really was about poverty. The poorest parts of town were hit the hardest which included white people. To my fellow black people out there, we have to stop isolating ourselves like only bad things happen to us. Yes, racism still happens, but we can't use it as an answer.

Kanye is such a crybaby. So what if he didn't get to do the opening? He is so full of himself.
And about Katrina, not racist. Get over it, if it would have been white people, or any other race other than black they wouldn't have said anything about racist. Get over it, stop being morons and stop trying to make people do things just because you have to play the innocent YOUR BEING RACIST! card. It's getting old.
