Led Zeppelin to Reunite for Ahmet Ertegun Tribute
- Posted on Sep 12th 2007 1:00PM by Gaylord Fields
Giving truth to recent rumors, the members of Led Zeppelin have officially announced that the band will re-form for the first time in almost 20 years to headline a charity tribute concert. The show, to take place on Nov. 26, will honor the memory of Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun, who signed the legendary rockers to his label in 1968 back when they were calling themselves the New Yardbirds. The appearance will mark the first time that Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones will perform together under the Led Zeppelin name since 1988, with the late John Bonham's son Jason behind the drum kit, as he was during that last concert reunion of the three surviving members. The concert will take place at London's O2 Arena, where the reconstituted Zep will be joined by Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings, Foreigner and one of Ertegun's last signings to Atlantic, Paolo Nutini. Proceeds from the event will go toward the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which provides students with annual scholarships to universities in the U.S., the U.K. and Turkey, the birthplace of the late record mogul.
"During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord," Robert Plant said about the event's honoree, who passed away in December. "For us he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator -- this performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long standing friend." Tickets will cost £125 (approx. $250 U.S.) and will be sold by lottery only, exclusively at www.ahmettribute.com.
In related news, the Led Zeppelin reunion will be preceded by the release of a two-disc best-of collection titled 'Mothership,' due out on Nov. 12, as well as a Nov. 19 re-release of 'The Song Remains the Same' on CD and DVD.

Led Zeppelin has been my favorite rock n' roll
group since 1971 when I attented Fashion Design
School in Pittsburgh, I fell in love with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, I saw them 3 times starting
with the memorable concert in Pittsburgh, l972.
I have stayed a loyal fan and passed my love of zZeppelin on to my daughter who now attends "Brooks Institute of Photography" in Santa Barbara, California, if we get tickets, she can take pictures for Zeppelin and show the pstudents of santa barbara what an awesome concert along with the mother/daughter event that will last in our memorable times forever. i pass my love of Zeppelin also on to my kids that work for me here in Washington, D.C., the DDVD two set disc and the 3 set dvd of how the west was won, I'm sharing with them. Please take in consideration all of this so my daughter and I can attent this concert.
All of my rock n' roll heart forever,
