Outlaw Rocker Pardoned for Picking Flowers

While he might be known for singing about killing a man in Reno just to watch him die, Johnny Cash is about to be pardoned for what seems to be the most heinous offense he managed to commit in real life -- picking flowers without the permission of the nice folks in Starkville, Mississippi.

The Man in Black, who was apparently looking to add a bit of color to that monochromatic outfit back in May of 1965 when he was hauled to the pokey by cops who objected to his lifting the local lilies, spent one night behind bars -- which he later chronicled in the song 'Starkville City Jail.' Well, the town fathers have decided to let bygones be bygones and will issue the all-clear in November, when they host the Johnny Cash Flower Pickin' Festival -- a nice touch, and one we hope the folks in Miami will repeat at next year's Jim Morrison Genital Exposing Extravaganza.

Actually, Johnny Cash was stoned and was in private property, and obviously confused. The owner called the police.

I hear that at that Johnny Cash festival, there will be a young singer, Jordan Carter, that sounds like a young Johnny Cash...looking forward to hearing and seeing him. I hear he is GREAT!!

It's interesting to note that Johnny Cash became a strong Christian and did much good trying to help inmates and others find new, restored life in Christ and find purpose and meaning. He had a great impact on many lives and was a positive role model later in life.

Vivian Liberto is as entitled to tell her story as Johnny and June were to tell theirs. And Johnny and Vivian talked about it before she did. All three are dead, so I don't know how Vivian is really cashing in on it.

Every city, town, and person wants to feel important and authoritative over someone or something. This reminds me of when I was at the visitor center at Mt Rainer WA. I was yelled at by a ranger for walking on the grass to take a picture by the Mt Rainer sign...this coming from a state who has clear cut half its forests. You just have to laugh.

My brother was playing baseball at Mississippi State when that happened. He said Big John neglected to mention that he was in his underwear stoned out of his mind when he picked those flowers! :-)
