This one, like Beatles-Stones, was the rivalry the media really, really wished would blow up. The fact of the matter was that, while Kurt Cobain was occasionally dismissive of his fellow Seattle band in the press, the conscientious blokes in Pearl Jam never took the bait. Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam was pretty much a nonstarter: All apologies.

I'd like the thank Nirvana for effectively dumbing down the rock n roll crowd to the point of killing it. Yeah I said it. Pearl Jam had experimenting driven musicians that made the music they wanted. I think Curt was KILLED so as to enhance his legacy, and make his widow a very rich woman...Soundgarden was/is better than both. And personally Im grateful for the Foo-Fighters, theyre a class act that embraces the past, and celebrates those who have come before.

I am not a fan of vedder, however I respect him not for his music, but because he took and raised the bar on the gauntlet that Cobain threw down (about corp. rock,
musical integrity,ect) and is still a success today. Just goes to show you what being
submissive for once in your life might get you. As the Buddhists say "everything
yields to water" the softest approach can be like a crushing force to the hardest
approach. Vedder practiced what Cobain preached.
