    Worst Band Feuds: No. 18

Marilyn Manson vs. My Chemical Romance

Fightin' Words: "Rebels without applause/ I sell my shadow to those who are standing in it" ('Mutilation Is the Most Sincere Form of Flattery,' Manson)

The aging shock rocker took shots at a younger generation, claiming that MCR owes him an unacknowledged debt. MCR frontman Gerard Way, astutely noting that many feuds occur when one of the offending parties has a new record to promote, dismissed Manson: "If Elvis Costello said we sucked we would think about it a bit ... We still haven't found someone that has knocked us down that we need to take seriously."

All horrid My Chemical Romance rhetoric aside, Manson did have a point, but not as much as The Smashing Pumpkins if they cared to drum up some feuding (various stage makeup wearings and costumes, if you need proof, consult the red eyeliner and that creepy resemblance that Gerard dude bears to Billy Corgan). Marilyn Manson however should not be so quick to cast a stone as his look is taken directly from David Bowie, Alice Cooper and other shock rockers.

Artist in general take influence from other artists, it's the way of human thought, My Chemical Romance was probably influenced by Marilyn Manson in some way, most people who grew up during the 90's were quite aware of him.

Either way, Marilyn Manson shouldn't call the kettle black.

Marilyn Manson is the musician that got me hooked on rock about 7 years ago I am a big fan of My Chemical Romance as well. Something Manson said at one point about MCR and the song quoted "Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery" he said something like (because I don't remember the exact wording) It's not that I don't like them as people I just don't like their type of music. Manson has played some of the same concert arenas with them basically the day after they played. Manson has no problem with them personally he just doesn't listen to their music and he chooses not to. I've listened to Manson for nearly 7 years and I've listened to My Chemical Romance for nearly 3 years or so. Like Marilyn Manson says about fans who want to be like him just be yourself you don't have to like or dislike something just because someone you respect, idolise, Etc... does.

No matter how you put it, Marilyn Manson will be one of those bands that will be remember cause it made a huge impact, unlike MCR that will be one of those bands that only a couple of emo kids will remember. Long LIve MM!

MCR is better than Manson, done.
Like someone said before, Manson would do anything for attention, because they're old, and no one wants to hear their lame ass music anymore.
    Gerard Way & MCR win.

no way. Satan Love marilyn has earned a place in rock history, and that mcr is just a flash in the pan. i partially agree to an extent with satan lover. he's right: marilyn HAS earned a place in rock history. now let's back up. let's see what each band is known for. mcr is know for their music and visual artistry in their music videos, especially the video for "helena." this video and song is where mcr REALLY got on their feet. so mcr is known for their music and art. marilyn is more known for not his music, but rather his theatrics and stunts. as a MUSICian, MUSIC is what you should be known for. mcr's music has saved lives. marilyn's, on the other hand, cost some. mcr promotes
living and anti-harm. marilyn promotes death and self-harm. these are not opiniions; these are well researched facts. if one is a MUSICian, people need know you for MUSIC, not all that other nonsense. te average north american knows who marilyn manson is and would probably react by saying, "oh. i know who that is," in a disdainful voice. i've gone out and done the survey. it's like that rap fued between ja-rule and eminem. ja makes fun of em's daughter hailie because ja is mad that dr.dre, 50cent, and jay-z won't work with him. eminem tried to call off the feud; ja keeps going until someone is killed. and here's manson, going on and on, even after frank came and apologized to him. and this all over makeup? SERIOUSLY? marilyn is almost forty and has had many failed marriages. gerard has married, his fanbase is expanding, and he's getting ready to become a father. what has marilyn to show for all his "work?" a bunch of stunts and cheap tricks. again, this is over MAKEUP? I MEAN, FOR REALZ? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS NIGGA? how do you copyright whiteface and eyeliner? if people are going to start complaining about someone stealing their makeup, david bowie and boy george need to be dragged into this as well. no, wait, KISS should be the judge of that! KISS wore makeup, more than gerard AND marilyn combined. this is so stupid. marilyn is old. he needs to go sit his old ass down somewhere in the corner with a newspaper and a cup of coffee or goat blood or whatever he drinks. i agree with gerard. some performer always does this crap right before a new record comes out. i don't hear anything about marilyn anymore. not even about his stunts. it's tired. it was cute for a while, then people started to want to hear actual MUSIC. the last thing i heard about marilyn was about his divorce from that burlesque chick. divorce is never good. that means something wasn't working out, probably manson. god. i mean, i NEVER hear ANYTHING about manson anymore. EVER. not even negative stuff. everyone's had their belly full. i can hum songs by mcr. i CANNOT hums songs by marilyn, the two that i've heard. no one talks about him anymore. people are talking about mcr. time's up, honey.

take a bow, marilyn, and go home.

Manson's got alot of room to talk! Alice Cooper hit the nail on the head with him..."Girl's first name, guy's last name...wears alotta makeup! What a novel Idea! Why didn't I think of that?!"

Wow. All the Manson bashing. I guess no one listens to the old-school anymore, hm? Just emo music. Oh well. Manson does his own thing and no one can stop it so why worry about it? MCR probably had a team of fifty writers trying to come up with a good line for Gerard to say back.

just wanna say:mcr is not emo.they said it before.just becuz u wear make up doesn't mean ur emo.they're in an independent label.they make good music.ray toro is a great guitarist;great solos.frank is a great entertainer.mikey is a lovely bassist who never intents to offend anyone.bob is a great drummer,i mean once he played a whole concert even though his wrist nearly fell off.and gerard.great lyrics!!!u cannot deny it.
and the black parade is not their only album.3 cheers is awesome.
please be more tolerant.don't listen to the media.i don't think bad 'bout manson either,i don't know him,his music is NOT MY TASTE BUUUT some might LIKE IT and THAT's OKAY!
P.S.:i'm not emo.u don't have to be emo to listen to good rock music.i listen to old school rock as well.and i love it.
