CBGB Resurrected With Live Recordings
- Posted on Sep 20th 2007 5:00PM by Benjy Eisen
While its acronym originally stood for "country, bluegrass, blues," CBGB's is synonymous with punk rock. The very name of the now-defunct Lower East Side venue conjures up a number of iconic bands (Ramones, Television, Talking Heads), images (filthy bathrooms, graffiti walls) and the whole DIY ethos. For those who choose to relive its greatest moments and still piss in a bathroom with a door, the birth place of punk rock will be resurrected with a series of live CD releases culled from the venue's vaults in conjunction with MVD Entertainment. The first round features shows by Mooney Suzuki, the Queers and H2O, with another round expected by the end of the year. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Hilly Kristal Foundation for Musicians and Artists, in honor of the late CBGB founder, who died in August at the age of 75.
