New York, 1997: I was walking with the band -- it was around New Year's, so they were kind of on a break. We did some portraits at my studio at the time, then we decided to go for a walk. We found this bench and I did a shot of them all sitting on the back of the bench and I suggested that Thom Yorke stand up and fall forward and I would catch him in between the fall. It'll look like you're on the edge of the bench. He kind of tricked me and was like, "Oh, yeah, how about this? Aarrrrgh!" -- and he just leaped up in the air, and I grabbed it. I said, "Can you do that one more time? I think your hand was in front of your face." So he did it one more time and we just got it. The other one was actually cool because his hands are in front of his face and you can't see him, but I chose to show this one, 'cause you can see his face.

Thom Yorke becoming Bono? You kidding?
Thom supports many charitable causes, but he doesn;t go around flaunting them and accepting gifts every other day like Bono does. In fact, Thom always seems like a rather quiet, reserved guy. Which is why this picture rocks.
P.S.- His solo album, first of all, was a modest effort, at 9 songs, and it was PRETTY DAMN GOOD. He even said that some of the music came from Radiohead outtakes. It was just a stopgap album while the band was on break.
This photo shows how happy the photographer is to exploit the formulaic image of the band as an enigmatic frontman and a bunch of boring back up people. This is pretty ironic in the case of radiohead where Yorke is slowly growing into Bono. I'd say the acclaim Yorke received as a solo artist last year was kind of reserved to forgiveness and tribute to the excellent work he's done with the rest of the group.
