PhotoSynthesis: Radiohead's Thom Yorke

Seattle, 1997: I caught up with them in Seattle and we were going to Vancouver. The band had just put in some equipment that they could record on on the bus, and [Thom Yorke] was just fooling around with his new recording equipment. I also remember Jonny Greenwood, the guitar player, had just hit up some consignment store and he bought this really cool old instrument, it's that one that June Carter Cash used to play -- an autoharp. That picture reminds me of that moment as well. This is an interesting point to be made: I wasn't on an assignment when i took this photograph. I had become friends with them, and I said, "Do you mind if I come out and shoot some pictures on the tour?" They said yeah, and so i just went out and showed up.
