Johnny Rotten Calls Sting, Police 'Dead Carcasses'

In the past few weeks, John Lydon the gentle, demure former TV host has been replaced by his brash, opinionated alter ego, the man appropriately called Johnny Rotten. The first of the Sex Pistols' chief rabble-rouser's Rotten pronouncements was to determine that Rudy Giuliani was "scary to high hell" in a roundup of presidential candidates he recently gave to Spinner, sparing none of the other 2008 White House aspirants in the process. Now, on the heels of an announced one-off reunion of his notorious '70s punk band to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its only album, 'Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols,' he has taken potshots at the also recently reconstituted Police. When asked to compare the Police, who are in the midst of a yearlong international reunion tour, to the reconvened Pistols, Lydon instead decided to compare the late-'70s/early-'80s multiplatinum trio to "soggy old dead carcasses."
In an interview that aired on Virgin Radio in the U.K., Lydon, referring to Police frontman Sting, also expounded, "You know, listening to Stink [sic] try to squeak through 'Roxanne' one more time, that's not fun. It's like letting air out of a balloon."
His Rottenness then went on to compare the substance-abuse woes of Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty to that of his late bandmate Sid Vicious. "They obviously don't enjoy what they're doing," he said. "And that's why you turn to drugs. And that's what happened with Sid, he wasn't happy about what he couldn't do. It's a slow suicide," Lydon continued, "and it's a cry for help because they're in pain, they're in mental pain. And this is a disgusting industry because people just cut you dead."

The Police are one of my favorite bands. I caught the tour this summer and while it was amazing to see a band live I would've had to be a baby to see previously, the ol' gray mare definitely ain't what it used to be.
That being said, Johnny Rotten's always been a big-mouthed hack in an overrated band. It doesn't really matter all too much what he has to say...

The Sex Pistols??? What Band. You guys couldn't make a pimple on sting or any of the police's ass!!!!!
Your only audience was a bunch of freaks!

I thought sting and the police sucked in there heyday. They had a bubble gum rock demure about them. The sexpistols where brash and Punk. But the goody- goody will always have bands like the police, cars, supertramp and the such , let them have em I dont care.

lmao... if you're a musician or even know a little about music, the sex pistols were basically a joke, showing us all that you really don't need talent to be in a band.

I have to agree to some point. For examples,it think its pathetic to see Mick singing nowadays. He looks old and sounds old too...I would like to remember him to way he was in the 70's not in 2007!!

Johnny Rotten is as right as rain. I like PBS, but during their fundraising, they trot out all these decrepit, ill-looking geezer bands of forty years ago. They stumble around, wheezing, drooling and coughing out decades-old lyrics. It's sad and pathetic. I appreciate that they once were talented and in touch. But that was then, and this is now. I still like the old songs but the bands that made them are of the past. Those old groups should have the good grace to get off stage, sit down, shut up, and enjoy their music as recorded. Thanks - An old guy

Johnny Rotten is just another example of washed up celebrity who needs to see his name in print. I have not seen the Police in concert on this reunion tour, and I am sure they don't sound like they did back in the 80's, but Sting can still out-sing Rotten any day of the week.
