IFLTS: 'Black Metallic,' Catherine Wheel

'Black Metallic,' Catherine Wheel
From 1992's 'Ferment'

Probably one of my favorite tracks from the '90s is 'Black Metallic' by Catherine Wheel. It's has a great melancholy -- almost sadness -- and gets very uplifting near the end. Every time I hear it, I sort of melt. I listen to every nuance and sing every word, and look forward to every dynamic layer that exists in the track -- especially in the whole drop-down section, where [singer Rob Dickinson's] sort of whispering the lyrics with the guitar. But then the drums kick back in and the song gets lifted to the next level. 'Black Metallic' is one of those really great songs by a band that's pretty underrated.

Hear the song after the jump.Scott Kirkland is one-half of pioneering electronic duo, the Crystal Method. The pair celebrated the 10th anniversary of their debut album, 'Vegas,' with a just-released two-disc deluxe edition reissue.
