Madonna, Beastie Boys Among Rock Hall Nominees

Madonna, the Beastie Boys, Leonard Cohen and Donna Summer are among the artists nominated for 2008 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They join the Dave Clark Five, Afrika Bambaataa, Chic, the Ventures and John Mellencamp on the eclectic nominee list. Only five will enter the Hall during the induction ceremony, to be held on March 10, 2008 at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

To be eligible for induction, artists had to release their first single no later than 1982. This is the first year of eligibility for both Madonna and the Beasties, as well as Summer, the Ventures, Cohen and Bambaataa.

Last year's class was comprised Patti Smith, R.E.M., Van Halen, the Ronettes and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Both, Elton John and his lyricist, Bernie Taupin, were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992, but only Elton John was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. This does not make any sense. If there was no Bernie Taupin, there wouldn't be an Elton John. Bernie Taupin needs to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a lyricist in the "Non-performers" category. Bernie Taupin has also written lyrics for Rod Stewart, Alice Cooper, Melissa Manchester, Heart, Starship, and his own singing career, both as a solo artist and his late 1990s band, The Farm Dogs.

Elton John and Rod Stewart are the only musicians in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame who Bernie Taupin has written for. Hopefully Alice Cooper and Heart will be next!

Bernie Taupin's prolific work though with Elton John alone should qualify him for the Rock Hall!

Send your letters to the Rock Hall explaining why Bernie Taupin belongs in the Rock Hall!

Remember to mention "Lyricist" & "Non-Performers Category".

By the way, Jann Wenner hates Elton John, but Elton John got in to the Rock Hall! Jann Wenner hates Chicago too! They are not in yet! Bernie will have a hard time!

It seems to me that ever since Granmaster Flash got in, the rock hall is becoming a dance hall. Madonna and the Beasties? How long do we have to wait before Kurtis Blow and the Fat Boys get in. How about KISS, RUSH, TULL, GENESIS, MOODIE BLUES and JUDAS PRIEST... maybe they'll get in when Sade does.
