Dangerbird Launches New Site, Offers 'Love' For Free

In celebration of Dangerbird Records' new site and the launch of Darker My Love's upcoming fall tour, the indie label is offering a free download of their psych-rock band's eponymous debut album, including a high res image of the LP's cover art.

But what sayeth the band about the freebie? "I think giving away our CD free is awesome," drummer Andy Granelli (formerly of the Distillers) told Spinner. "You can get it free if you looked hard enough anyways. [And] this way you don't have to waste your printer ink to print out the booklet. Booyah!"

And with the "pay-what-you-want" strategy employed by members of Radiohead for the release of their new album, 'In Rainbows,' it's a promising trend that musicians are considering for distribution of their music. Meanwhile, offering free mp3s is nothing new in the indie realm. Just take a gander at Brian Jonestown Massacre: singer Anton Newcom offers his band's entire catalog free of charge on the website.

Darker My Love is hard at work in the studio with producer Dave Cooley (Silversun Pickups) for their sophomore effort, due next year. In the meantime, DML will be on the road supporting the Warlocks this fall, as well as a two-night opening stand legendary, fellow fuzz-rockers Jesus and Mary Chain at the end of October.
