Rocker's Hard Drive Detained by Homeland Security
- Posted on Oct 17th 2007 4:30PM by David Sprague
There're a lot of people who'd suggest that the Homeland Security Department isn't doing enough to protect America. And while there's a certain amount of anecdotal evidence -- journalists proving it's a snap to smuggle dirty-bomb material across our borders, for instance -- to suggest some employees might be sleeping on the job, we can rest assured that we and our brethren are safe from the indie-rock menace. Thanks to the quick work of the federales, a courier carrying a computer packed to the gills with material recorded for Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla's solo album, 'Field Manual' was apprehended and forced to surrender the hard drive, music and all. Walla has back-up tapes of the material, which has been described as political in nature, but given the fact that Google Earth is so easy to use that even George W. Bush may be able to figure it out, we'd suggest he keep them as far away from his own home as possible.

I like the part about "Nazi America"
Certainly is headed in that direction.
I'm just an old wore out Nam Vet, but if they try and move in on me personally, it will be sadness.
What scares the hell out me is that I think that in large, the American people now days are just too damn lazy to do anything about it. The left is well on he way, by slowly taking our freedoms away from us. AND THE SHEEP WILL FOLLOW
Dept of Homeland Seurity is there to make sure the all the SHEEP stay inline.
Homeland Security,CIA,FBI ect use a keyword list
when checking emails. Something said in jest could put you in a world of s--t. So be careful
what you say.
am i the only one that sees this coming. soon homeland security will be able to simply walk up and take anything you have (including your free or life) and there will be nothing anyone can do about it. after that it won't even be legal to talk about it. welcome to nazi america.

He was denied entrance to the USA but no eveidence was ever offered. Be careful when you buy into propaganda, perhaps doing your own research would have kept you from making an uninformed statement.

October 20 2007 at 5:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat does this possibly have to do with George Bush. The author of this article is a moron who can't keep his political bias out of some story that has absolutely NOTHING to do with politics. I don't support Bush either, but I am so tired of hard-core liberal trying to turn anything into a political statement.

Another glib, impossible-to-read, information fluff piece by David Sprague. The New York Times this is not. On adolescent blogs, I suppose typing is its own best justification.
This story would have been better if it had told why the computer was confiscated. Was there more on the hard drive than music (the story sort of suggests that's all there was)? Is there something else involved here? C'mon. Give us the whole scoop!

Did I miss something... was the seizure of his equipment political in nature or was a law violated? Sounds to me like his stuff was seized based on his views. If so, that's a very dangerous line for DHS to cross. But sounds like that line has already been crossed and sanctioned by our leadership. Sad.
