These art rockers whipped MTV's earliest viewers into shape with yellow hazmat suits, flowerpot-shaped headgear and plastic pompadours, all intended to represent aspects of the de-evolution of American culture. ANd in addition to the aforementioned Tubes and Parliment/Funkadelic, how can there be no mention of P-Funks disciples, the Digital Underground?! (Humpty Hump alone should have put them on the list.) or Hawkwind?!! or Green Jelly (aka Green Jello)
For the record: Alice Cooper started doing his thing in 1969 whereas Kiss didn't put on makeup until about 1972 or 73. And the true credit towards starting the whole glam thing goes to Marc Bolan and T.Rex.
What about Ziggy Stardust aka David Bowie, or even Gary Glitter?

Devo wasn't scary and interesting looking like Alice Cooper was--that's the only reason, not because theyt weren't good.:-)
