Santa Cruz Island, Calif., 1978: I call this one "Timothy Schmit rides the bow sprit." The bow sprit is the thing that sticks way out in the front of the boat, and the first sail is attached to the end of it. That was Joe Walsh's sailboat, called the So What. I went with the Eagles to sail the Santa Cruz Island, which is an uninhabited island out near Catalina. I had lived on a boat for a year in Hawaii and was used to people riding the bow sprit and climbing the mast, so I was pretty much at home on a boat like this. We were just going up and down like a carnival ride. As you can see, he's having a good time, and I'm holding on for dear life with one hand and to the camera with the other hand [laughs].
