Lily Allen Calls Radiohead 'Arrogant'

Lily Allen has never had much trouble speaking her mind and her latest verbal barrage is aimed at Radiohead. The lippy Brit recently gave Rolling Stone her own two cents regarding the "arrogant" rock group's choose-your-own-price marketing strategy for the release of their new album, 'In Rainbows.'
"They've got millions of pounds," Allen says about Radiohead. "It sends a weird message to younger bands who haven't done as well. You don't choose how to pay for eggs. Why should it be different for music?"
'In Rainbows' will be released Stateside on January, via the band's TBD Records imprint on ATO Records.

despite ms. allen having a completely valid point, this experiment with 'in rainbows' was because radiohead was so successful to begin with. it's not going to change how we consume "younger bands who haven't done as well"- most of it has been through bootlegs, mixtapes, tape-trading, etc. a lot of music consumers will willingly pay to support an artist they like. this was more of radiohead's way of treating their fans wasn't it?

They can tell people to choose their own price because they own the music. They didn't record or promote it with the help of a label, therefore, if they want people to pay with canned food, then that's their perogative.

One suspects Ms Allen, whose meteoric rise to "fame" would never have occurred without the significant grandstanding and clout of major labels (and daddy's media chums), is probably trotting out the party line, quite possibly as a contractual obligation. Had the comment been made by someone who was anything more than a media sock-puppet and Zeitgeist surfer, I might give it more credence.

wow, who is lily allen to say anything negative about Radiohead? she's a fucking popstar, radiohead is one of the most influential bands of our generation. Allen probably wants to stick with the record labels so she can have ungodly amounts money to support her overindulgent lifestyle and cocaine habit. They offered the fans to choose their own price, free even. Allen is jealous because 1. she doesn't have that good of a fan base and 2. because she will never make music that's on a level ANYWHERE NEAR Radiohead

obviously she's never been in a real band. Most of my close friends have been in serious bands, recorded on 4 tracks and sold their cd's for basically whatever the person could afford. It's about getting your music/name out there and letting people enjoy it. When major labels get involved that all changes, maybe that's why she has trouble grasping this concept.

Radiohead, by releasing this album, is going to cause an Us versus Them game between those for The Right to free downloading (the hardworking public) and those completely against it (large record labels).
Because the greedy middle man record labels have huge amounts of money, they will attempt to control the media by way of giving out negative reviews.
I believe that the best source of critiquing a group/band is with your own ears, not the words of some biased multi-million dollar corporation.
Clearly the intent of negative reviews that are biased is to pressure newer bands to signing contracts for major labels.
I have personally been a fan of Radiohead for several years, and I enjoy searching for unique Indie bands which are outside the mainstream music scene.
Radiohead is one of the few groups who stay true to their musical vision even with their incredible success!

Lily Allens name keeps appearing with oh so lame commentary about just about everyone today...
The question is who is this wanna be and frankly who cares what her opionion is.

Lily who? exactly! Umm, don't care what she has to say. Obviously she's looking for some publicity by commenting on Radiohead's approach; it's sure to get her in some sort of spotlight, and she succeeded. Of course Radiohead has pots of money and can take a gamble. They totally could have waited to release the album on traditional hard copy CD but they wanted to get it out there to fans. Plus, they have slung it out the hard way and fought from the ground up to get where they are. They are the most creative, sonorous band on the planet. Fans are loyal for a reason. Just because they chose a different method to release an album does not mean others artists have to. If she hasn't noticed, the industry is changing. Lily Allen can go fly a kite.

Oh please!!..just too funny really. Tell you what...when Lilly What's Her Name can write a song as brilliant as Paranoid Android or make an entire album of the same brilliance as Ok Computer, The Bends and Kid A, then maybe I'll think about hearing what she has to say, and you know that will never happen!
