Most Killer Songs: No. 3

'Cold Ethyl'
--Alice Cooper (1975)
Weapon: One could only imagine
Gory Details: Ethyl sure is frigid, but you would be, too, if your corpse was locked in a freezer. He doesn't disclose details of her demise, but we can safely assume that this twisted necrophiliac had something to do with it. He says, "If I live till '97/You'll still be waiting in refrigerator heaven." Talk about freezer burn!

I dunno, as much as Cold Ethyl rocks, later tracks on Welcome to my Nightmare, such as Steven offer a darker killer. I mean, the more memorable murdering occurs later. Not to mention better enactments of murder. But I guess Cold Ethyl is the fun track with lots of silly puns. In any case, I'm glad something from the album made it on

DO YOU THINK THAT MAYBE HE'S TALKING ABOUT ETHYL--ALCOHOL--HE IS A RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC...IN THE FREEZER...BY THE LIGHT OF THE FRIDGE..NOT A CORPSE..ALCOHOL!

This song is a dual pun; it's about necrophilia, because he's Alice Cooper. But it's also about alcohol.

This was not Alice Cooper's first song about necraphelia (sp?) either. Check out "I love the dead." Talk about over the top. I believe they brought in a string section for that one. They (meaning Alice and his underrated early band)used to close the show with that and at the climax Alice himself gets beheaded. Years later Joey Ramone said in an interview that he was dissapointed when he found out that Alice wasn't really a necrapheliac, his father was a man of the cloth (which explains a lot) and that he played golf.
