    'I Shot the Sheriff'
--Bob Marley & the Wailers (1973)

    Victim: Sheriff John Brown
    Weapon: His firearm of freedom
Gory Details: An oppressive sheriff gets his due when the shooter defends his right to liberty. Sheriff John Brown draws his gun to prevent the man from leaving town, so the fellow defends himself, firing once. "I shot the sheriff, but I didn't shoot the deputy," he clarifies. Give him credit -- this man will only take the heat for what he actually did.

If you're gonna pick a Bob Marley song I'd prefer Redemption Song. And speaking of covering Marley songs, Michael McDonald is covering Redemption Song on his new Soul Speak cd.

You probably just heard Claptons version first, thats why you think its better. It seems like it always goes that way. As much as I love Claptons cover, nothing beats Marleys original songs.

If you listen to the words, I think the sheriff killed the deputy and is getting ready to blame it on Marley/Clapton after killing him.

In my opinion Eric Clapton does a better version of than Bob Marley and The Wailers ever did of I Shot the Sheriff.

Bob Marley wrote I Shot the Sheriff and released it in 1973. Clapton first released it in 1974 on 461 Ocean Boulevard. Do a little research before you make stupid comments.
