The Crystal Method recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of their debut album, 'Vegas,' with an expanded reissue that includes a remastered version of the original, a booklet with photos from the period, and new liner notes, remixes and rarities. Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan weren't necessarily surprised when Universal approached them about the project, as Kirkland tells Spinner the duo get to frequently see firsthand how the album has endured for people. "Still our biggest tracks when we play are 'Keep Hope Alive,' 'Busy Child' or 'Trip Like I Do,'" Kirkland says.Jordan adds that it's a big compliment that the album continues to be, in his words, "a steady, albeit slow, seller." "It's always been of interest to us to make music that won't sound dated a few years down the line," he says. "I think 'Vegas' really holds together through the years because you don't listen to it and hear rave anthem sort of tracks on there. It was always sort of a different sound, a blending of rock, electronic, rave and trip-hop. I think we got the balance right on all of that."
As the pair were revisiting 'Vegas,' they were simultaneously at work on their next studio album, due in the first half of next year. Both Jordan and Kirkland agree the timing will influence the new music. "Listening back to the old masters, we really had the low end covered on this album," Jordan says. "People have actually said that to me before, but with sub-harmonics and the general overall bass it kind of made us think about using a couple of the older boxes that we were using constantly on the first album. It's going to be helpful for this next album."
"I listened to 'Vegas' again in preparation for writing the liner notes for the booklet and I was kind of surprised at the flow of the album and the different techniques we used," Kirkland adds. "I think that will help give us perspective on wherever we go in the future with our sound."

I like 'Vegas' quite a bit, but I am surprised that they don't mention "High Roller" as one of their biggest tracks from that album... that's my favorite song from it!
