- Posted on Dec 3rd 2007 12:00PM by Jessica Robertson
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers landed the highly sought after Super Bowl halftime slot, which is set to take place on February 3 in Arizona, at the University of Phoenix in Glendale. The veteran rocker follows Prince, who performed at the annual pigskin event earlier this year.Petty joins a long list of heavyweight performers who've graced the halftime stage, including U2, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, and lest we forget, Janet Jackson and her nipple.
The event will be aired on Fox.

Sean eric, I'm pretty sure that "The veteran rocker follows Prince, who performed at the annual pigskin event earlier this year." is simply reiterating the fact that Prince performed last year, not that he will perform again this year. Not that I would have a problem if he did...
December 04 2007 at 11:29 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJesus Christ, we have to tolerate prince again just to finally see a good band like Tom Petty. The Heartbreakers were around way before prince, so why does that screaming idiot get to headline?
December 04 2007 at 3:51 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHah... yeah, it's definitely clear since the whole "Janet Jackson" nipple flash thing that the Superbowl have headed in the "Classic Rock" direction. Who would have thought that it would have been the rockers who would one day be the safe choice? :P
