12 Best Christmas Songs: No. 1

    'Christmas in Hollis'
    --Run-DMC (1987)

Rapper Rev Run meets a guy in the park with a beard and a dog. Turns out the dog's a reindeer, the guy is Santa, and the million bucks he leaves behind in his wallet is the year's good tidings. The sample makes this a double whammy of good cheer: It's from Clarence Carter's soul strutter 'Back Door Santa,' itself a naughty-but-nice Christmas classic.

This is the last time I take the spinner staff seriously. This is the best christmas song of all time. Run DMC......ha you've got to be kidding me.
Are they a decent group? I'm not saying they are not, however is it right to put them over Lennon, Bing Crosby(which somehow didn't make this list) and U2's Christmas. I highly doubt that. If this song were lower on the list like say somewhere from 20-15 it would be justified. Number one that's a travesty.

What about "Two Step 'Round The Christmas Tree"
By Suzy Bogguss? Suzy and her husband Doug Crider
    wrote it. That's a classic.....

Suzy Bogguss and husband Doug Crider wrote another Christmas song, about their new son, and how children see christmas.
    "Christmas Through Your Eyes"
Beautiful song. It's is on the C.D. called "Mother And Child" A Celebration of motherhood with Suzy, Martina McBride, Amy Grant,etc....

How about Elvis' version of "Merry Christmas Baby"? Man, I detect an underlying hatred of Elvis at this site, for some reason. The writers always have to toss in some lame denigrating comment, I guess to let us know that maybe Elvis wasn't so great after all. As far as Blue Christmas goes, I'm not sure what song the writer was listening to ...the opening line doesn't sound like that at all to me. Anyway, Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas is probably his best work, at least vocally. And you can hear Merry Christmas Baby...a slow, bluesy number that sounds like he and the band are really enjoying themselves. It's fun to listen to.

Oh yes, and I have to agree with a few other posters, as well...Nat King Cole should be on the list, as well as Judy Garland... beautiful songs. And by the way, this list isn't about who's in the top 10 at the moment, it's about great Christmas songs that span generations. All the songs mentioned are on the radio every Christmas season. Why? Because people like them. And that, my friend, has everything to do with "stats" and "popularity."

The Christmas C.D. of Suzy Bogguss is not "modern"
Or "pop". The title of the C.D. is "HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS" Here are a list of the songs from the album.
    1. Have yourself a merry little christmas
    2. Mr. Santa
    3.Sleigh ride
4.Do you hear what I hear
    5.Winter wonderland
6.I heard the bells on christmas day
    7. Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
    8.Two-step 'round the christmas tree
    9.Baby it's cold outside(duet with delbert McClinton
    10. Through your eyes(Penned by Suzy)
    11.O holy night
    12. Jingle Bells

I must laugh at this list. I've only heard of two of the "Top 10 best" and while I do admit they're great songs, the rest of them are horrible rap or hip-hop songs I've never heard of. Did you forget about the classic Christmas carols or something? The things they actually play on the radio? Not this hip, modern junk. >__>

All my top 12 favorite Christmas songs can be found in a hymnal or on the radio at Christmas time. lern2makegoodlists plz kthxbai.

I would submit, that, for content, Jethro Tull's "A Christmas Song" is way better than any of the so-called Best you've listed. It speaks to the heart, shows the poverty in civilized society, and calls for social activism.

This list of best songs reminds me of Christmas growing up. I would open all the smaller gifts first working my way to the biggest gift to be opened last.I would open them thinking that if these smaller gifts are this good, then the one in the big box must be the best. Then, finally after all the lesser boxes where opend it came time and I ripped open that last biggest box. And like this count down I was dissappointed in the crap I found at the end.

Wow. This list is probably the most poorly put-together list of holiday hits I have ever seen. Your #1 should have been on the Worst 12. Likewise, songs on the Worst 12 like "Merry Christmas With Love" and "Do They Know It's Christmas" rank just as highly in my book as do "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and "Someday at Christmas." You people need to do some actual research about Christmas music, as the public would likely disagree completely with your lists.

You all should read your Bible and remember the true meaning of Christmas! Not one song in this list to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!
