It isn't a Christmas song. It's a pinko anit-war song pretending to be a Christmas song.

Jerry,
yOU HAVE NO Idea what ypu are talkimg about. You sound like pinko trash from the Ozarks. You probably voted for Mccain, are against gay marriage, suport the NRA and the kkk as well. Get over it! Us Liberals are taking over.
taxmistressat 12-25-2008
Do you know what a pinko really is?

It figures they would pick this political piece of crap as a great Christmas song. It was done right after the US turned and ran from Viet Nam. How come Old Johnny didn't continue after "war is over" with the added lyrics; "re-education camps and genocide have now begun?"

This and Bowie/Crosby's little drummer boy are the ONLY christmas songs I like. Can we throw the rest in the dumpster? Burn them? Erase them all from memory? Please?
David Milesat 12-08-2007
Lennon and Mcartney were a great song writing team, but, without Paul, Johns songwriting was much diminished.
The idea was good. What better Christmas present could anyone have than an end to all wars! (If that makes me a 'Pinko' so be it.)
The song in total does not live up to the idea. The verses are just bland, and the chorus just does not fit in.
Nowhere near a top 12 Christmas song.

As I reflect tonight on the night that the jerk (Mark David Chapman) took from us., a great singer. I'm happy to hear this every year and remember how good a singer he was.
hmatt1982at 11-30-2008
Frank,
I remember that night well. Black Monday is was called. Try not to dwell on it. If we remember him that way MDC is getting what he wanted. John was a person of peace and love. Remember him that way.
PEACE, MATT

Lennon the hypocrite.. Imagine a world with no religion...and than a X-mas song. Anyways X-mas isn't christmas!! X= the unknown! and CHRIST is known .. This is a pinko anti-war song! Other than slavery and nazism what good are wars!
hmatt1982at 11-30-2008
Steve,
You are misinterpreting the song. However, I don't have the time of strength top explain it to one more person. However in short terms it is about all mankind with no beliefs to argue over, no groups to artificially separate us, "the world will be as one.

I absolutely agee with Matt... LENNON'S should be #1 and BOWIE #2. All others, blah. Not quite as meaningful.

I love this song. I am not going to say it should have made Top 12, but I love it. Honestly, I feel like I am going to vomit. Were you strung out when you did this list? Must have been. A whole lot of the Worst should be on this list, and most of this list should be on the worst list. I have heard, 6,3,and 2. Frankly, none of those should be on this list. You want Christmas songs? Whatever happened to "O' Holy Night" or What about Burl Ives???? COME ON.... As some said, Nat King Cole? What about "Hark The Herald Angels Sing"... Something is seriously wrong here. "We Three Kings of Orient Are?" I could go on and on about Christmas Songs.... One of THE BEST Christmas songs I have ever heard has recently come out... It is called "Bring Him Home Santa" it is sung by a 6 year old girl, and it is amazing... I don't know what music you guys have been listening to in order to come up with these lists, but you definatly got something crossed...
Danaat 12-08-2007
Also, I agree about about Bowie as well.. and to all those idiots.. .The song may be titled Happy XMas but have you heard him say it??? He says, So This is Christmas, not so this is xmas you stupid @$$E$... And have you ever really listened to "Imagine"? You oaf...
gariadea33at 12-08-2007
steve-0...first, John Lennon was not a hypocrite. He was way ahead of his time. The best song ever, even though it isn't an xmas song is Lennon's "Imagine." Secondly, I prefer 'Holiday song' because there are many holidays going on at this time of the year and to say xmas or Christmas is offensive to other religions. Also, keep in mind that Christianity is NOT the majority religion in the world. But, think about it...if we didn't have ANY religions, there would be a heck of a lot less fighting and wars, and we would have World Peace. So he is absolutely right! What a great man he was!
gariadea33at 12-08-2007
Dana,Dana,Dana...it isn't nice to call people an 'oaf'and other nasty names. Evidently, you have never really heard the words to 'Imagine', or if you have, then you can't grasp his concept. Warmongers, like Bush, would have a hard time understanding that song, as well as any religious fanatics on here.
