'I Won't Back Down,' Johnny Cash
From 2002's 'American III: Solitary Man'
I really love the 'American Recordings' series. They all really hit a nerve with me. They make me think and feel melancholy and emotional, and also empowered. 'I Won't Back Down' is so simple, and Johnny Cash's voice gets so deep and strong. If I feel weak or cornered -- or if I'm freaking out and I feel like I shouldn't be and I want to be strong -- I'll listen to that song and it gives me strength.
"I won't back down, you can stand me up at the gates of hell and I won't back down, cause I know what's right." You know when you know something's right inside? That song just reassures me about that feeling because principle is the most important thing. It's better to regret doing something than to regret not doing something.
Kate Nash is a British singer-songwriter from Harrow, Middlesex. Her debut album, 'Made of Bricks,' hits U.S. shelves on January 8.

I prefer the Nine Inch Nails song he did much more than this one. Now THAT brings a tear to my eye every time!
