Paul McCartney is ringing in the new year with a healthier heart. British newspapers are reporting that the 65-year-old legend had a "serious but very routine" heart surgery sometime in the fall. The reports claim that the former Beatle consulted a London doctor after he fell ill and was advised to undergo a coronary angioplasty. That's a fairly common surgery that opens up arteries and increases blood flow. A McCartney spokesperson confirmed the procedure saying, "It was a routine medical operation."
McCartney's recovery was apparently very speedy, as he performed live on a televised BBC New Year's special.
