Bright Eyes Shines for Barack Obama
The Iowa caucus is a daunting prospect. The first in a long line of important electoral events, it's a place where presidential hopefuls must campaign their asses off, shake hands 'til they blister and smile 'til it hurts -- all while surrounded by ferocious competition. Lest we mention the brutally cold weather. So, when an influential, doe-eyed indie rocker shows up to rally your younger target audience, you've got to be psyched. A native of nearby Omaha, Nebraka, Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst is no stranger to political rallying. The singer-songwriter toured with Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M. as part of the MoveOn.org Vote for a Change initiative during 2004's presidential campaign. This time around, however, he's supporting Illinois senator and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
"I met the future president of the United States earlier today," he said as he took the stage before Obama's speech on Wednesday, just before performing a short set of tunes, which included the progressively-titled 'One Foot in Front of the Other.'
Take a look at who's supporting whom in the world of music after the jump.
