Clay Aiken Asks: Who Is This Guy Monty Python?
- Posted on Jan 14th 2008 6:00PM by Gaylord Fields
In just a few days, Clay Aiken is about to be transformed into a brave and gallant knight of song and dance, as he endeavors to join the cast of the Broadway musical 'Monty Python's Spamalot.' Far be it to surmise that this most famous second banana of the 'American Idol' franchise possibly may have been miscast, but not only did he admit to not really getting the revered British comedy troupe's humor, he was laboring under a strange notion of exactly who or what this Python is. "I thought Monty Python was a person until three months ago," Aiken told Newsweek. And upon first exposure to the Python brand of absurdist comedy, the singer was initially none too impressed. "The first time I saw it I thought it was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen in my entire life," he added. Though some may sneeringly dismiss the Broadway stage as a place for wusses and wimps, Aiken said he has been asked to get physical in unaccustomed ways to prepare for his role as the chickenhearted chevalier Sir Robin. "It hurts so bad," he said. "I don't know if it's I'm not coordinated or using muscles I never had to use before," he admitted, confiding that as a result he "couldn't even get off the toilet the other day."
We're guessing this production must be quite different from the movie version.

Yes, Dennis, THIS is what we are talking about. What's wrong with keeping it light sometimes? All you talk about is war, the presidential race and people with no health insurance?? Huh.
You're fun. Do you do childrens' parties?
I think Clay is the real thing. He maintains his loyality to family, his fans and being true to himself. Now he is on Broadway and has earned that. I just shake my head at the bashers and nay naysayers seeking attention and not having a clue about clay. Embarrassing themselves. I applaud his talent, his courage and his heart for kids and dedication to those in need. His star will always shine brightly.

I'm sure they didn't write songs for him because he couldn't hit the notes, they wrote songs for him to sing because of his amazing range. I think he is kinda dorky and tries to say things with a sense of humor, but they come off a little flat - not quite funny to most people, but he meant him that way. If you watch him, you'd see what I mean. Ever seen somebody who tries to be tell a joke, but it never comes off quite right? That's him, but he can still sing.

But you geniuses know better, right? What's on your resume? Probably very little accomplishment. You are insecure and ignorant to bash Clay for no good reason - grow up already!

We all would like to think that all celebrities or entertainers are well informed and up to speed on all kinds of things. But the reality is that they are human just like the rest of us. There are plenty of things I have never heard of, but I would hope that those who are familiar with those things wouldn't look down upon me for not knowing. Besides, this story should never have seen the light of day.

January 16 2008 at 5:03 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyClay Aiken is the absolute pinnacle of fagness, and I mean that in a good way....he has brought so many values to America, and his cute little smirks and that hair have brought nothing but sheer joy to an ailing economy....

I am in my late 40's and have had years of musical training, production, performing and judging of talent experience. There is no disputing that he has a very unique vocal quality which he knows how to use, his voice is well trained, he has an excellent range and the tone of his voice throughout that range is beautiful and touching. Add his charisma and his heart for others and sensitivity and you have someone who is a gift to this world. I am not a Claymate and I am not clueless, I simply cannot overlook talent and specialness and Clay has that in spades. He is sometimes misunderstood, many times misjudged and not given enough credit most of the time, so thank God for the Claymates who make up for the rest who won't give a fair shot. I will continually hope that people will open their ears and their hearts to Clay. He is not perfect, none of us is -- but he is endearing, even in that, and he definitely has a sense of humor. Keep in mind -- people are exposed to different things in life -- I never saw any Monty Python thin, didn't know what it was about, and simply wasn't interested. Give him credit for admitting the truth! Whether or not this role suits him, I give him major credit for trying something new and putting himself on the line, taking himself out of his comfort zone -- that is a great thing. Please give him a chance, you will be blessed if you allow yourself to see the real young man, and investigate all he has done altruistically. Best wishes, Clay.
