On This Date in 1969: Led Zeppelin, a blues-rock quartet newly formed from the remains of the Yardbirds, release their eponymously titled debut album. The Almanac Advises for January 17: "When building a new home, or renovating an existing one, consider constructing the foundation out of easily found materials such as hard rock. Heavy metal can add structural strength to the framework. Restrict the exterior color palette to the family of the blues."
