New York's Sharon Jones made her way into our Los Angeles studio with the Dap-Kings in tow recently, and unloaded some sweet soul goodness from their infectious album, '100 Days, 100 Nights'Jones spoke candidly with Spinner about her late success, which saw the singer's transformation from a prison guard to Apollo Theater headliner. "Earlier, in the '70s and '80s -- and early '90s -- I was told, 'You didn't have the look,'" she said. "It had nothing to do with my vocals. I still got that same look. Now, I'm much older, still short, still pleasantly plump. And to be 50 now, I think I'm able to deal with it. I'm able to handle the success a little better. It's the right time."
Brooklyn's soul queen also discussed her Daptone family, and influencing a promising soul queen herself, Amy Winehouse. "[Amy Winehouse's] been out here a few years and she got a record that's gone platinum," Jones said. "For her to say I inspired her, that means these last twelve years or few years, she's been listening to our songs. They've been trying to get bands to produce that sound [for her] but they had to come to the source -- the Dap-Kings. And now, you can't mention their name without mentioning my name. So, it's a blessing, and I'm very thankful for that. I hope Amy gets herself together, gets back out here and keeps doing that music -- the type of music that we're doing."

It's a doggone shame that Mark Ronson is neglecting this treasure. Don't get me wrong, Winehouse is going thru hell in a handbasket right now, but she's shown that she's in no shape to perform. I'm sorry, but using her 'artistic talent' and 'sensitivity' is a bunch of noise.
Sharon Jones has dealt with the worst of humanity dealing with prisoners, drug addicts, etc. However, Ms. Jones WANTS to perform, she deserves so much more accolades and fame. If Winehouse wants to wallow in self-pity, so be it. But don't punish the Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings (those guys deserve sainthood for dealing with Winehouse's stage antics)! Shame on Mark Ronson!
