Hair can be such a bummer. When Caroline cuts off her beautiful long tresses, her boyfriend agonizes that she'll never be the same again. Inspired by a real-life girlfriend of Tony Asher, Brian Wilson's writing partner on 'Pet Sounds,' the album it closes, the song was initially called 'Carol, I Know,' but Wilson misheard the phrase.
