'Two Out of Three Ain't Bad'
--Meat Loaf (1977)
Writer Jim Steinman wrote this after hearing Elvis' 'I Want You, I Need You, I Love You' on the radio. "Baby, we can talk all night," sings the Loaf, rather sweetly, speaking for all men in relationships. "But that ain't getting us nowhere."

One of the best songs ever written. I don't think anyone could have done it any better than Meatloaf.

Classic! 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Listen to Meatloaf with a full symphony behind him if you get the chance. He was underappreciated.

Yeah the first time i heard this song was when this guy was still courting me. Everytime I was in his car this is the song that's being played on his CD..everytime.He wooed me,then learned to love him more than he loved me.Until he broke my heart like "literally"!Until after couple of years everytime I would hear "Two out of Three" on the radio--I just realized that it's a catalyst to what's going to happen to us.There are times I remember my EX..It's sad to be reminded of the pain, but I moved on.

Another mean line from Meatloaf is in "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"
I swore I would love you to the end of time
So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive

When this song was new, I went with a guy who'd sing this song at me as a way to say he would never say "those three little words." So, I sang it back at him: "One out of three ain't bad..."

I saw Meat Loaf in 1978 before he hurt his vocal cords. What a shame. Now he needs backup singer to hit all the money notes. If he still had a the same pipes as he did back then, he'd be doing new music instead of rehashing old stuff (badly).

Do you guys(and girls) one better! My FIRST love, dear GOD was I insane over that boy! a'll know what I mean! Anyway, one evening, everything going beautifully and it was close to my curfew(this was 15 years ago). He walks me up to the door and has tears in his eyes(alligater tears,I'm SURE), hands me a tape(told ya, I'm old), he tells me what track to listen to and he's sorry. Gee, wonder what track it was??? You got it. WTF? BROKE my young little heart---as first loves tend to do, right?
