On This Date in 1959: The Beechcraft Bonanza flying rockers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper to the next stop on their Winter Dance Party tour crashes into a cornfield near Mason City, Iowa, killing all three men, as well as the pilot.The Almanac Advises for February 3: "Be certain to harvest corn early, before the cold winter frost and long, dark nights settle in. If not, you will have a field of death and desolation. However, you can always seed a fallow field in the winter for crops to grow anew and flourish for seasons to come."
