- Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch is launching an independent film company, titled Oscilloscope Pictures, that will both provide funds for unfinished films and distribute documentaries.
- Rapper Pimp C accidentally overdosed on a combination codeine and promethazine -- the ingredients found in "syrup," a drug common in Southern rap circles -- it was ruled on Monday. Pimp C, whose real name is Chad Butler, was found dead on December 4 at a hotel in West Hollywood. He was 33.
- Britney Spears' former manager, Sam Lufti, has been banned from contacting the embattled singer, an L.A. commissioner ruled on Monday. The commissioner also ruled the Spears' father will maintain control of the singer, as a co-conservator.
