On This Date in 1964: With 73 million American watching, the Beatles make their live U.S. television debut, performing five songs on the 'Ed Sullivan Show.' The Almanac Advises for February 9: "The most important part of battle is knowing when to surrender. If you are completely overwhelmed by an invading force, your best strategy is often to just give in."
