On This Date in 1990: R&B bandleader Ike Turner is sentenced to a prison term of four years for various cocaine-related offenses. The Almanac Advises for February 16: "Though some artists believe that drugs foster creativity, what little research that have been done on the topic seems to indicate the opposite. Opiates, such as heroin, are 'downers,' and can have a sedative effect that actually dampens creativity, while stimulants such as cocaine and amphetamines can overstimulate and lead to stress on the body."
