On This Date in 1996: Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker invades the stage to disrupt Michael Jackson's rendition of 'Earth Song' during the 2006 Brit Awards.The Almanac Advises for February 19: "The concept of deflating heroes is as old as mythology and is a feature of just about every belief system. As long as there has been hero worship, there have been iconoclasts -- literal idol smashers. Many theologians believe that such seemingly sacrilegious behavior is important for the well-being of any sect, as it deflates pomposity and brings religion back to the human level."
