On This Date in 1996: Snoop (Doggy) Dogg is acquitted of murder in the death of Philip Woldermariam. In addition, as a result of a deadlocked jury, a mistrial is declared on the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. The Almanac Advises for February 20: "When disciplining an unruly canine, be certain that the appropriate punishment is being meted out. Also, punishment is most successful when it takes place while the misbehavior is going on, not afterward. Keep in mind that rewarding good behavior may shape the offending canine into more socially desired roles better than withholding or punishing it will."
