Singer Protects His Manly Mane?

Earlier this month, the British Daily Mirror reported that the 67-year-old Welsh belter Tom Jones had insured his ample chest hair to the tune of $7 million. Such strange bodily functions are not unheard of: Heidi Klum, for instance, is said to have insured her 'Runway' gams for $2 million, just as Tina Turner apparently did before her. Some reports suggest that Bruce Springsteen's voice is insured, as are Keith Richards' hands and Dolly Parton's boobs -- $600,000 for the pair.

The trouble is that Jones himself claims the story is, well, a bit fuzzy. "Completely fabricated," reads the post on his official Web site. "We assume this is just the Mirror having a bit of fun and hope no one takes this kind of 'reporting' seriously."

The mixup evidently stems from an old interview given by a Lloyd's of London underwriter, who explained that his employer had, in fact, once been asked to draw up a prospective policy for an unnamed male model's chest hair. The insurer was just waxing hypothetical when he suggested that "Nobody in their right minds wants anybody to know that Tom Jones wears a chest wig."

No kidding!
