Eddie Vedder, Serj Tankian Lead 'Body of War' Soundtrack
Eddie Vedder is continuing his soundtrack run with a contribution to the 'Body of War' compilation. The track, titled 'No More,' was written exclusively for the film and recorded with Ben Harper at last year's Lollapalooza festival. 'Body of War,' is a documentary that tells the tale of Tomas Young, a soldier who was shot in the chest and paralyzed from the waist down during his first week of duty in Iraq. Young hand-picked all of the music for the two-CD soundtrack."The compilation record was an idea that grew out of my love of music and my reliance on it before, during and after the war," Young said in a release. "The songs I selected for the record were tracks that inspired, motivated, and at times, literally saved me over the past few years."
Meanwhile, System of a Down's Serj Tankian shows up twice on the soundtrack -- once with System's 'B.Y.O.B.' and his solo 'Empty Walls.' "When Tomas was trying to put together the music for 'Body of War,' he wrote the artists a letter about his experience in Iraq and how he had found his voice through the recovery process," Tankian told Spinner of his involvement. "He told his story very simply, yet very powerfully and I was extremely moved reading his letter. I was also inspired by his courage in taking a stand and speaking out. I knew right away that I wanted to get involved and help get out his message in any way I could, and what better way than through music?"
The CD is available March 18, but can be pre-ordered at www.bodyofwarmusic.com.
