Well, Little Richard IS holding up considerably better than Michael Jackson. The man says what he thinks and is consistently humble toward God.

Hell, Pat Boone was famous for doing Little Richard covers. He didn't invent it but he was in the lab with Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, and the folks that did.

Little Richard's hits were waning when Elvis bought the rights to record four of Richard's songs. The Elvis rebirth of these songs, (Tutti Frutti, Long Tall Sally, Ready Teddy and Rip it Up)allowed his manager ("Bumps" Blackwell) to ballyhoo that Elvis was just an imitator. Richard was the Original! It's all show business hype.

May 19 2009 at 12:48 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAll true. Being givin air play an AM radio in the 1950's as an African American was unheard of, but he did it. Elvis was great, but he broke into music by singing black music because most of the black writers and singers couldn't get picked up by record labels or get AM stations to play black music unless it was sung by a white man. I know I'll get a lot of crap for this but anybody who grew up in the '50s and was aware of the music sceen knows it's true. And know disrespect to Elvis, he's still the king.
