Born: John Joseph LydonWhat's in a Name: The head Sex Pistol is said to have earned his nickname through the dubious distinction of his prematurely decaying teeth. Rotten's nickname for his pal John Simon Ritchie was dentally inspired, too -- "Sid Vicious" was borrowed from a particularly nippy pet hamster.

But it's so fitting. Funny to watch kids now try to rip Sex Pistol names to sound "punk". Unoriginal prats. And, hahaha - ""Sid Vicious" was borrowed from a particularly nippy pet hamster." - That's adoreable.
